Brief Biography: Boyd was born in Camden, South Carolina on April 7th, 1951 to Harvey and Bobbie Longshore. He was baptized and confirmed in Lutheran Churches of America congregations in Camden, South Carolina and Marietta, Georgia, respectively. Boyd is a graduate of Georgia Tech, Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelors of Science of Applied Mathematics. He also is a graduate of Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California, with a Masters of Public Administration. He attended Martin Luther College and completed the Seminary Certification for second career pastoral candidates. Boyd served in the United States Air Force for 22 years and retired in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also served the Department of Defense as a civilian contractor for over 6 years upon his active duty military retirement. Boyd and Mary Harmening were united in marriage at St. John's Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, on January 2nd 1981. They have three sons -- J.R., a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado who works and lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Laurel; Andy, a graduate of Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School who works and lives in Willmar, Minnesota; and Joe, a graduate of Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School who is a freshman attending Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota.
